My blog today is about a narrative What You Don't Know (Lulu Wang). The story is amazing and worth listening to. Lulu was conflicted between her Grandma's feelings and the truth. She is confused if she should tell her Grandma what the doctor's diagnosis was or if she should prioritize her Grandma's feelings. As I was listening to the story being told by Lulu Wang, who lived with her parents in United States. I came to the conclusion that Lulu did the right thing. Lulu was told that her Grandma was diagnosis with stage four lung cancer and only had three months to live. Lulu's Grandma was just 5 ft tall and 80 years old at that time. Lulu had lived with her Grandma for some time, when she was 2 years old, so the their bond was really strong. In China's it is a custom to give the results of medical testing to the patients family members. The Doctor told Lulu's Aunt that her Grandma had advance cancer and that she needed to be in the hospital right away for treatment. The family had taken her to different doctors with the same results. But instead of telling Lulu's Grandma, Lulu's Aunt doctored the medical result so the Grandma wouldn't know the real results. The whole family from the ones that lived in China to Lulu's parents agreed it would be best to lie about the results. They went as far as having Lulu's Uncle"s son move his wedding day sooner, right away. It was a way to get all the family member together to say goodbye to Lulu's Grandma without her knowing what they was doing. Lulu battled within herself with her emotions of telling her Grandma or not. o she brought a camcorder to hide behind as to not give away the secret of the fake wedding. Lulu had went along with all the lies. Three months had passed all the way to a year, with everyone's amazement Lulu's Grandma was still alive. Some believed that it was the joy they had brought her that heal her Grandma, some thought it was their prayers that were heard. It was not telling Lulu's Grandma her that she had cancer that helped her. Lulu's Aunt had said that if her Grandma would have known then about the cancer she would give up on life and surely would have passed away. To Lulu's surprise during all the lying, she found out that her Grandma had done the same thing to another family member before. The most important choices I ever made was when I was just beginning High School. I had a very close friend at the time. I remember my parents and I moving from Havertown to West Chester to our newly build house, first. I didn't have any friends at the time. Kevin, his parents and sister Kate moved next door a little bit later. One day I was playing basketball in my driveway, by myself. When I looked up and saw this freckled face pale kid coming down and I was like what does he want? He asked if he could play basketball with me because he liked to play also. After that day we would play basketball in my driveway or his. We used to have long talks about life and everything else to the point we became friends. We used to play basketball against the neighborhood Dads 2 vs 2. We would win some, which I know now was a lie. Then one day, Kevin's mom came over to my house and asked if I could teach her daughter Kate learn to play soccer. Kate was going to tryout for a traveling team because she wanted to play. Kevin's mom had heard from her son and other parents that I was one of the best players around. I told her I would help, since I was cool with Kevin why not, right? I helped Kate learn how to play all the way into High School.
Then one day, Kate came over, me thinking okay so she wants to learn more. I was wrong needless to say. I came to find out that she grown to liking me. She kissed me and asked if I liked her the same way. I was shocked at first then I fought my temptation because I had grown to like her too. But instead I lied to her and told her only as a friend and that I had a girlfriend, which I didn't. I didn't tell Kevin about the situation because I didn't want him feeling some type of way. I lied to Kate because I valued her brothers friendship. And yes, she made the team.
